New dojox.widget.Rating widget and even more innovation with gfx!

Just after Wolfram landed his new Rating widget in DojoX, I read about Tobi's extension to this widget that uses dojo.gfx! It's a testimony not just to Wolfram's clean implementation, but also to the reusability of the Dojo architecture and the widget system in particular. Nice work, guys!

Introducing BorderContainer

Try out the new dijit.layout.BorderContainer widget, now available in trunk. This widget combines the functionality of the LayoutContainer and SplitContainer widgets, and does so with a smaller and simpler implementation.

Dojo Grid 1.1

Now that everyone has had a chance to take the grid for a test drive, I'd like to work on the Dojo Grid development road map.

Please comment here, file tickets, or send me e-mails, or find me on irc, and tell me what you like and dislike about the grid.

The grid is coming!

The new Dojo Grid is coming soon, and I'm now ready to announce the plan.

Blog entry: http://www.sitepen.com/blog/2007/09/16/the-dojo-grid/
Press release: http://sitepen.com/pressReleases.php?item=20070917

Short version of the story:

- TurboGrid is coming to Dojo thanks to SitePen, Mozilla, Nexaweb, Redfin, Snaplogic, and TurboAjax Group (prior to and after their acquisition by ActiveGrid).
- It will be updated for the 1.0 release and feature all of the Dijit goodness.

Widget Wish List

Hi all. For those of you that don't know me, I'm in charge of Dijit. We are just wrapping up the Dojo 0.9 release now (btw, download the nightly and start testing). Now's the time to look forward and see what widgets people want for 1.0 and beyond, both in Dijit and DojoX.

There are a number of missing features from 0.4 that need to be added to 1.0, especially table, tree, charting, and maps. We know that everyone wants table, and better tree features, and we'll have something soon.

Widgets and High Contrast Mode

Often when I am explaining accessibility requirements for Web pages, I find that people don't really understand the issues concerning High Contrast. This post attempts to explain high contrast mode and includes some pictures to demonstrate the potential problems.

Renkoo: Style Switching With Dojo

You probably know that the Dojo widget system is amazingly flexible and will let you quickly modify not only the style of a widget, but also its DOM using templates. Our friends at Renkoo have gone one step further to show how a little mod_rewrite can be used to theme Dojo widgets on the fly!

Latest improvements in the Editor2

Some improvements are just committed to dojo Editor2 in trunk. Although dojo 0.4.1 release (which is the trunk will be) generally should not break API compatibilities, as these changes only affect the new part of the Editor2 API (compared to 0.3.1 Editor2), and which is just released with dojo 0.4.0 one week ago, so we decided that an exception can be made for the Editor2 in this case.

DatePicker: lots of new stuff happening here!

With the upcoming release of Dojo 0.4.0 approaching ever so quickly, an updated version of DatePicker has been released. Over the past few months many people have been crying out for new features for dojo.widget.DatePicker. Over the past 2 months, these cries have been met with more and more improvemnets. The most recent one being i18n support for the text displayed in DatePicker. This was a great achievement and made the DatePicker that much more fiendly for people around the world to use. With that being said, lets get on with the new and improved DatePicker.

Chart in IE

While I'm at it...the Chart widget is working in full right now in Internet Explorer: check it out. While there's some major refactoring going on with it right now, it should remain stable enough for use in the following browsers: Firefox 1.5+, Opera 9+ and Internet Explorer 5.5+/Win. Current chart types include line, bar (series), area (added today, will be there tomorrow), scatter, and bubble. The only known issue is with Opera 9 and the bubble chart (apparently it doesn't like some attributes).
