Hey everybody,
I'm Rob, and I'm organising the Summer of Code programme for Dojo in 2008. We want this year's summer of code to be bigger and better than in '07.
Before SoC starts, this forum is a place for discussing your ideas. Don't bother trying to keep stuff secret from other students - there are plenty of projects and work to go around. You'll be able to improve your proposal a lot better if you get as much feedback as possible before it gets submitted.
Feel free to ask questions about the SoC programme here as well.

Seems we had a few permissions problems with the forum, but I'm told they're fixed now so you can all post. Email me if you're still having issues.

What level of knowledge is required to participate
Hi
I am a 2nd year computer science student from India
I am very much interested in web development stuff specially ajax, php and javascript
I think Gsoc2008 is the right place to develop my skills in this field
Well as i am a student i am in learning phase of these web technologies and languages ,
so I wanna know exactly what level of skills of javascript and dojo are required ?, as I am learning these and have basic programming knowledge(C,C++,php,JScript and data structures) right now but can't be an expert in a week.
Is there any relation between dojo and dojodrupal project (if anyone knows)? That is a good community aswell.
thanks

Welcome
Hi Sumit,
We're after people who are proficient in Javascript, and willing to learn. You don't need to know Dojo (we're sure you can get up to speed quickly enough), but we are asking our applicants to do a coding exercise in Javascript.
Different SoC project ideas have different types of skills required - eg. the accessibility ones require someone good with CSS, while the template helpers require someone familiar with rails/django/php/etc.
You need to tell us why you're the best person for the project you're proposing!
Rob :)
