dante's blog

These be updates, folks.

There's been a lot going on in Dojo-Land recently, though our blog is no indication of that fact. Here's a meta-update encompassing all that I can recall:

Announcing: Zend Framework integration of Dojo 1.x

Today marks a very exciting milestone for two great Open Source Products: The Zend Framework and The Dojo Toolkit. Zend aims to provide out-of-the box Ajax functionality capable of communicating directly with the Framework, and Dojo aims to provide the solution.

Please, don't use _testCommon.js!

This is important, so please read on ...

Ad-hoc UX survey

Hello Everyone (users of dojotoolkit.org),

I'd like to take a second to ask openly everyone's opinion on what needs done. Not in the regard of Toolkit bugs or enhancements (you should be doing that at trac ;) ), but more what can be done in this website to better help you find the things you are looking for. As a new user (or old member), what has bugged you the most about navigating this site? Were you able to find everything in a sane manner?

Dojo 1.1 Released

The moment has arrived. I've been anticipating this since the first new fixes to trunk were made, shortly after the 1.0 release. I am proud -- no, elated -- to announce what marks another solid run of around-the-clock development: The Dojo Toolkit version 1.1

DDD:IV Kickoff

So we're here at Google gearing up for two days of Dojo Developer Day goodness, and wanted to make a quick announcement: For those of you unable to attend today or tomorrow, we'll be in #dojo on irc.freenode.net all day so please drop by and share some words.

Toolkit agnostic widgets

This past week Michael J. I. Jackson blogged about a realllly slick widget he'd written called Shadowbox. As far as I know, it is the first in what I would enjoy seeing become a trend: Toolkit agnostic "plugins".

Code Completion with ActiveState Komodo Editor

I like the free Komodo Edit app from ActiveState. It has it's own XML format for code completion and tips and whatnot, though the most recent Dojo version available only covers the 0.4 API ... I grew tired of using Dojo 1.0 with 0.4 API's popping up as I typed, so I ventured out to see if I could generate a CodeIntel XML (.cix) file for the new API, and it worked.

The dojo.moj.oe

They say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, and I agree. I had the pleasure of running an experiment writing an identical widget in Dojo, jQuery, and Prototype, and naturally ended up at the script.aculo.us website. Its one of those elegantly simple involving websites, where even if

1.0 in 30^H^H60 seconds

I thought i'd take a second to to follow up on Alex's initial 0.9 in 30 seconds post. I added an additional 30 seconds to go ahead and cover some of the other basics he left out, and to elaborate some on alternatives. Spend your first 30 seconds reading that post, and come back.

Great. You are back.
